I am almost about drawing a close from studies into the book of
Matthew and want to share this little exposition about the humanity of
our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, I hope you invest small amount of
your time to read through this piece.
The relationship between Jesus and His disciples to me is sets a precedent for Christians to draw so much lessons from with regards to our daily integrations. I take for instance Jesus and Judas.
It intrigues me so much to know that Jesus right from the beginning knew pointblank Judas was the one to betray Him at the end of His ministry yet He was silent about it.
Jesus knew the heart and personality of Judas but never unmasked him to anyone, not His disciples or any other person He was close to in His entire three and a half year ministry walk with them, I asked myself why? and I got a sharp answers.
Jesus was loved by His disciples, they were close to Him, revealing Judas to the others would breed an unhealthy relationship among the disciples. How, if Jesus had mentioned him as the antagonist, it was going to set the stage for a slanderous and a backbiting spirit to operate amidst the disciples and this was not the nature of Christ.
Jesus did not point Judas out because the others were going to hate him for good. Jesus Himself was and is love, so for His followers to burn with anger against another would be a total disagreement with His nature and His purpose on earth.
Despite the fact that Judas was the money thirsty and selfish does not mean Jesus did not love Him, He loved him like Peter or any other. My conviction is that, Judas all these years had a great chance to repent and not betray Jesus, you ask me why? The Scribes, Sadducees, Pharisees, the high priest who tore his garments in anger against Jesus, which of these would have been more easier for the devil to manipulate to betray Jesus? Nevertheless, Jesus was the truest man, do we remember He said a man’s enemies are those of his own household, Matthew 10 V 36, so scripture was fulfilled when Judas underwent his operation.
Jesus knew the disciples as well as Judas were not perfect. Judas was not the only ill-mannered person, the other disciples also had their personal negative traits but the allowed the words of Jesus to affect them. If Jesus had pointed the antagonist out, the adverse effect would be that, the others were going to think highly of themselves.
Was Judas destined to betray Jesus, my answer is an emphatic NO. Like I have mentioned above, the fact that he had the nature he had and became a disciple of Jesus was a golden opportunity for him to tap into the words of life Jesus disseminated for his character transformation.
Well I hope, this has illuminated us all to some extent, Glory be to God.
What do you think? If you knew your enemy pointblank, would you love, hate or avoid him?
Jesus endured Judas, He moved up down with Him, He ate and drank with him, He washed his feet, He was in the same boat with him, He with him and the others fed thousands of people, they slept in the same building, He laughed and communed with him, did almost everything together with him. Was he not heaping coals of fire on Judas, we are all empowered to live, think, love, forgive, walk, teach, love, conduct, endure, intercede for others like Jesus through the power of the Holy Ghost.
May God continue to bless and engrace us as we patiently wait for the Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
God Is King.
